Preparing for Your Bathroom Remodel

August 16, 2017

Getting ready to remodel your bathroom with one of Strasser Woodenworks collections? Any remodeling needs some preparation and a great checklist to ensure steps don’t go overlooked.

Let Strasser Woodenworks help you get prepared! Here are a few things to keep in mind when installing your new bathroom set.

Time for the Remodel

It’s easy to assume remodeling a small bathroom will only take a few days or less time than a larger one. This is not always the case. It’s best to plan for extra time for steps such as ordering and purchasing tiles, fixtures, or any other items you may want to update in your bathroom. It’s also crucial for those who have one bathroom in their home to make arrangements elsewhere while the shower and toilets are being taken apart.

Taking Measurements

This step is an important but often an overlooked step. There are 3 major limitations which really make size matter in a bathroom renovation: the overall size of the bathroom, the location of existing plumbing pipes and electrical wiring and the typical standard dimensions of bathroom fixtures. More frustrating than trying to shop without measurements is to end up purchasing stuff that doesn’t fit.

Don’t forget: Walls, Flooring, and Lighting

Plan and design what you want the walls, flooring, and lighting to look like. This goes along with taking measurements of your bathroom space. Making sure you have the adequate amount of paint, tile or laminate will save enormous amounts of time. Lighting can be overlooked but is an important piece to ensuring the best remodel. Plan for increasing natural light first, a good rule of thumb is you should have least 4 watts of incandescent lighting per square foot.

Update Features and Fixtures

No renovation is complete without remodeling or repairing fixtures and features, make a checklist with items such as: shower, bathtub, toilet, sink, faucets and shower heads. Helping to complete your new look, update or repair your mirrors and shower doors. You can also change the look of your bathroom very easily by changing out door handles, drawer pulls and the hardware for your shower doors.

Great Ventilation

Proper ventilation is important for your remodeled bathroom. Removing excess moisture from your bathroom will help prevent mold and condensation from occurring in other rooms of the house.  Be sure in your planning to choose the right fan for your space, the right position for its installation and electrical wiring suitable for your appliance.

Final Clean

Leave a proper amount of time on this last step!  Before putting away all of your bathroom items, make sure to do a proper clean. This includes: wiping down the walls, fixtures, cabinets, in and around the toilet and bathtub, and the floors. Your new bathroom is almost complete!
