6 Ways to Warm Up Your Bathroom in the Winter

December 27, 2017

Winter can be brutal, especially when it comes to the comfort of your bathroom. No one likes having to get up from a warm bed to step onto a frigid bathroom floor. Strasser Woodenworks is a pro when it comes to creating a comfortable atmosphere for your bathroom all year round. Here are a few tips to keep your bathroom warm and inviting for the winter!

Create a Warm Welcome. Decorate your bathroom with warm tones to give your space an intimate feel. Using warm tones such as beige, off-white, pale yellow or even reds can create a warm and cozy space visually.  Dark wood finishes such as cherry or oak will give your bathroom space an inviting ambiance. You will be amazed how the perception of the actual temperature will change, too!

Let the Light In. Let the sunshine through your windows. Daylight will actually raise the temperatures slightly, even on cold winter days, especially if you have south-facing windows.  Once the sun sets, keep the heat in by pulling your blinds or curtains down.  Thermal blinds or curtains that accent your bathroom’s warm decor will block even more heat from escaping and give you an added blanket of protection from the cold outside.

Keep a Warm Towel Near.  Nothing feels better than a warm towel right after a hot shower.  Hang your towel close by the shower door so that it’s close at hand.  Even better - install a towel warmer.  Heated towel racks, rails or stands are available at many home stores. Most towel warmers electric and can be easily plugged into a wall outlet. Some heated towel racks can be connected to your hot water system, so they don't require any additional electricity to operate.

Check Basic Efficiency. Check around your window frames to see if any cold air is seeping through cracks. If the caulking around bathroom windows is old and cracking, remove it and add a new caulking seal. On the outside, you will need weatherizing silicone caulk, but on the inside, you can get away with inexpensive tubes of acrylic caulk. Now caulk comes in a variety of colors that can match your bathroom’s existing decor.

Try Heat Lamps. Switching on a heat lamp gives you the benefit of both light and warmth. Infrared heating provides fast heating and is splash proof. It’s best to consult with an electrician before installing a heat lamp in your bathroom to ensure safe installation.

Consider Heated Floors. One of the most luxurious things you can do to make your bathroom toasty in chilly weather is to invest in radiant-heat flooring. If your bathroom is in line for a renovation, consider installing radiant heat flooring. Not only does radiant heat make stepping onto your bathroom floor a joy, it is a very energy efficient way to heat your bathroom and it adds to the value of your home.
